On Saturday, August 19th we held the second Hardscape North America (HNA) Pacific Northwest Regional Qualifier at our paver plant in Lacey, Washington. Nine teams competed for an all-expenses paid trip to Louisville, Kentucky to compete with other regional winners on the national stage at HNA in October.
The event went off without a hitch due to support from our co-sponsors, Willamette Graystone and Belgard and all of our vendors – ICPI, Hardscape North America, EacoChem, SEK Surebond, Husqvarna Construction Products, ACM Chemistries, CalPortland, AWS Pedestal Systems, and American Glove. And of course the judges are deserving of kudos for donating their time and expertise – Alan Burke of Classic Nursery, Gale Schroder of Willamette Graystone, and Ed Harrington of Appian Construction.
The competition was made possible by the participation of the nine crews who represented their companies and wanted to earn the title of Best in the Northwest. The teams were from Powell Pavers, Seattle Rockeries, Shovel and Thumb, Segmental Systems (2 teams), Avid Landscape Design and Development, Escapes Fence and Deck, Rios Brick Pavers, and Sound Pavers. It was a long, hot day and all the teams were impressive in competing.
In the end one of the teams from Segmental Systems repeated as the winner and will be representing our area at the national competition, October 19 – 21 in Louisville. Coming in Second Place was Shovel and Thumb, followed by the other team from Segmental Systems in Third, and Powell Pavers in Fourth.
Thanks again to everyone who volunteered their time to work the event and to those who came out to watch and support their teams. We hope to see more teams and spectators next year.
