Outdoor living spaces are becoming so popular because they are an extension of one’s living room or kitchen. They can elevate a backyard space well beyond a poured concrete patio and a small patch of grass. A concrete paver patio provides both beauty and function by giving your space both color and texture. They can also serve as a base for an outdoor kitchen, patio furniture, or a fireplace. And once your paved surface is in place, you can add brick or stone to your vertical surfaces to really give your project a finished look.
This family backyard outdoor living area was designed to showcase the natural greenery of the Pacific Northwest around planned areas for relaxation, outdoor dining, and entertainment. It was also built using a variety of Mutual Material products.
The central feature is a patio plaza designed with curving natural shapes and made with Mutual Materials Columbia Slate Patio Stone in Summit Blend. Applying a paver sealant coating on top of the Columbia Slate intensifies the colors while providing protection from weather elements and fading.
A prominent backyard feature is a large tree, which sits in the middle. Using Mutual Materials StackStone® retaining wall blocks, a raised circular garden planter was built around the tree and enhanced with plantings to create a natural foundational feature. The Summit Blend color was also chosen for the StackStone to color coordinate with the patio stone.
The well-designed backyard features a covered outdoor entertaining area, as the patio extends into an outdoor dining room. The outdoor dining area features a built-in food serving station, finished with a thin manufactured stone veneer of Umber Creek Cultured Stone Country Ledgestone, one of Westlake Royal Stone Solutions’ newer colors.
